It is the reason the resort has existed since 1906, and in 2026 two beaches in Mamaia Nord, Axxis Nova and Phoenicia, flew the Blue Flag.
About the place
The resort began on 22 August 1906 with wooden bathing cabins grouped in two pavilions and a pier into the sea, and in 2026 it turned 120. The sand bar Mamaia stands on is 8 km long and only about 300 m wide, and the beach of mineral and shell sand reaches 250 m in width in places.
The beach is split into concessions with sunbeds, bars and clubs. The northern part, Mamaia Nord, belongs administratively to the town of Năvodari; Axxis Nova and Phoenicia, the only beaches on this strip with the Blue Flag in 2026, are there. On Google, 'Plaja din Mamaia' holds 4.2 from more than 950 reviews.
Good to know
- Lifeguards and serviced beach areas work only in the summer season; the rest of the year the beach stays open for walks.
- Swim only where there are lifeguards and follow the flags at their towers.
- In July and August, especially at weekends, come early in the morning to find a spot.
