About the place

The stud was founded in 1928, according to Romsilva (other sources give 1926), with Arabian horses brought from other studs in the country. Since 2002 it has been run by the National Forest Administration, Romsilva, and it breeds purebred Arabians: breeding stallions, mares, young horses and horses for sport and leisure. It has a racecourse for flat racing and a facility for jumping training.

Visits are made with a guide: you see the stallion and brood-mare stables and the groups of mares out at pasture. Riding displays are by appointment only. Just south-east of the stud lies the Mlaștina Hergheliei nature reserve (98 ha), a wetland where water birds stop, from whooper swans to egrets and pelicans.
