About the place
The foundation stone of the first monastery, then called Tatlageac, was laid on 2 June 1929 in the presence of Princess Elena and the historian Nicolae Iorga, and it has been called 'Saint Helena by the Sea' ever since. In 1950 the monastery was dissolved, its buildings were demolished and the wooden chapel was moved to the Saint Panteleimon hermitage in Techirghiol.
The present convent was refounded after 1991: the foundation stone was laid on 14 May 1996, and the church, dedicated to the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena, was consecrated in 1998 and painted by 2005. It keeps relics of the martyrs Zotic, Atal, Camasie and Filip from Niculițel. According to reviews, there is also a complex with rooms and spa treatments next to the convent.
