About the place

The foundation stone was laid on 14 June 1913 on the initiative of Elena Movilă, Ioan Movilă's widow, helped by her son Sever and his wife Alina. Work stopped during the First World War and resumed in 1923 under a committee led by Sever Movilă; the architect was Marin Mihaescu, and the builders included the Cristu craftsmen and Naum Panait, from the families Movilă had brought in for the first hotels.

The church was consecrated on 25 August 1935 by Bishop Gherontie of Tomis. In the same year Ioan Movilă's remains were brought here, and a lamp burns in the church for his family. Between 2000 and 2005 it was strengthened and repainted, and the new paintings were consecrated in October 2004.
